Although weight loss is ultimately controlled by caloric intake, hormones to play a strong role. And insulin resistance can disrupt your hormonal weight loss mechanisms.

And most weight loss hopefuls do not know how to address this issue if they have it.

So here is how to fight insulin resistance:

1. Make resistance training your primary exercise modality: You see, resistance training is a great way to get in shape, but it also reverses the effects of insulin resistance. It can accomplish this because it changes the membranes of your cells.

2. Try to ramp up intake of legumes and beans: The more legumes and beans you eat, the better off you will be. This doesn’t mean you have to give up whole grains, but just try to focus more on legumes and beans for the best results here.

3. Don’t rely on supplements: The less supplements you have the better off you will be as far as digestion goes. You see, supplements digest much faster than regular food. And faster digestion will always translate into worsened insulin resistance.

4. Eat a lot more vegetables: The more vegetables you eat the slower your stomach will digest food. And having slowed and controlled digestion is an excellent way to battle insulin resistance. You see, one of the causes of insulin resistance rapid digestion.

5. Have portion controlled meals: You want to make sure none of your meals are too big. You see, a big meal is more likely to spike your blood sugar. And once this happens it will be very hard for you to get that insulin resistance under control.

6. Avoid liquid sources of calories: Unfortunately, liquid sources of calories digest very quickly. Thus, it’s in your best interest to avoid them as much as possible. Otherwise, your blood sugar will spike and insulin resistance will get worse.

Insulin resistance doesn’t have to be a nail in your weight loss coffin. As long as you take action on the advice here you will be just fine!
