Everybody likes to get a massage but not everybody is okay giving them to another person. The possibility of hurting someone is a very genuine concern. Also, it’s possible to feel afraid that the massage might not be good enough. We are afraid that the person getting the massage will dislike what we’re doing. You will be glad to find out that anybody can learn how to give a terrific massage each time they want to do just that. Here is how you can give a great back massage each time you wish to.
The first thing that you have to do is make sure that the person is comfortable when he or she lies down. They need to be laying down on a surface that is both firm and soft. You don’t need a table but try having them lie down on the bed. If they are on your floor, put down a mat or some soft blankets or towels so that they will feel more comfortable. If the person wants to remain clothed (and most will), be sure that the shirt they are wearing is made of soft material so there won’t be as much friction or scraping.
Begin with some basic rubbing. Use the full flat side of both hands to rub from the base of the back toward the neck (do this slowly). Put some pressure into this but do not use full massage pressure just yet. Begin at the base of the back and slide your hands upwards, along either side of the spine toward the neck then across the shoulders and back down the back. As you do this, make each “loop” of the back smaller so that you are sure to get to all areas of the back.
You can give good and pointted pressure when you use the heels of your hands. Work the heels of your palms in small circles beginning in the middle of the base of the back and then working out toward the sides and then upwards and back in until you’ve covered the whole back.
Sit at the side of the person receiving the massage. Then, having one hand on top of the other, push into the back using your fingers. Start at the spinal column and push steadily while moving your hands away from the spinal column and across the back then lightly slide your hands back across the back toward the backbone. Repeat the process as you work your way up the back and then repeat on the other side.
Work the spinal column. Start at the base of the spinal column and work up each of the sausage-y muscles on each side of the spine with a couple of fingers or your thumbs. Knead each node at least five times each so that you can build up a little bit of friction. Massage all the way up one side of the spine and then work up the other side.
It is crucial also to relax the person repeatedly between each section of the massage that you are giving. This means that after you’ve used one technique, perform the basic rub that you used at the beginning of the massage for a few minutes.
