Most of the women in the US who are overweight didn’t get that way by design. They are multi-tasking and have a busy lifestyle that doesn’t allow time to work on themselves. Sometimes we may take a stab at a diet that we see, or we may try to make time to exercise. But, for the most part, we are too busy and have to many commitments to stop our lives and focus on our health. If we take a look at the womens fitness bases that keep us healthy and active, we are missing a few bases.

So, instead of stopping our lives, making a severe change, or starting one more diet and exercise program that won’t work, maybe it’s time to try something else. By adopting a holistic approach to our lifestyles we can significantly change our health inside and out by starting slow and easy with some simple techniques that work.

Taking a holistic approach to diet and working out and starting slow enough to allow our bodies to adjust as we go will help us to be healthy and lean. This program is not a wonder diet that will make you drop a specific number of pounds. You will lose weight because you are getting healthier. You will start looking better because you are exercising more. Diet and exercising are inter-connected and work together to create the body that we want.

Most people fail to take the first step when they want to change their lifestyle or lose weight. It is imperative to find out where you are at. Getting a journal and recording your progress will be a great way to keep track of how you are doing on your program. By putting your weight, BMI, how much energy your currently use, and how much, and what, you are eating, you will have a great starting point.

Weighing yourself each day is not required when you are on a healthy diet and working out program. As you exercise you will build muscle mass. The muscle weighs more than fat so the scales may not reflect the changes that are going on in the body. As the muscles gain strength you will notice that the fat is vanishing even if the scale does not agree.

Starting a straightforward exercise program is the way to build up to a thirty minute a day program. By walking just fifteen minutes a day you can steadily build up to thirty minutes. When walking is not a challenge start walking quicker. When that is not a challenge, begin to jog. When you have exhausted all of the thirty minute walking options begin a different exercise for 15 minutes each day and work up to thirty minutes. In a very short time doing thirty minutes of working out each day will be a habit and something that will be effortless to do.

Diet is going to be a sneaky game that you play with your brain to keep it from throwing up obstacles as you are switching out bad foods for healthy alternatives. Start with replacing snacks with fresh fruits and vegetables. The body becomes addicted to many of the chemicals in processed foods and refined sugar. Most diets tell people to stop eating those foods right away. Instead of putting a halt to food cold turkey, just switch out healthier foods in small portions.

Start eating five times a day instead of three. By eating five small portions a day of real foods you will find that you not be hungry during your day. In the beginning, add healthy foods to the two new “meals” you eat a day and reduce the other three meals. Then start introducing healthy foods into one of the three meals at a time. By doing this on a regular basis you will find that you will have a healthier lifestyle that will create the leaner and trimmer body that you want.
