The dilemma of exercise is that we all know we have to do it in order to lead happy and healthy lives but it is so frustratingly difficult that we find it really hard to motivate ourselves to get up off the couch and out into the great wide open world. Luckily man kind has developed a few gadgets here and there that can help keep us moving and keep us healthy. I’d like to talk today about a little thing called the pedometer watch.

There are a few things that can help you to stay focused and motivated in your work out routine and one of them happens to be the pedometer watch. A pedometer watch turns your running routine into a hard mathematical calculation. It shows you exactly how many steps you took during the course of the day and you can use those numbers to track your progress over time.

Stay away from focusing on your body weight if you’re just starting to work out. The biggest mistake I find people doing is they will start a work out routine and then right after day one jump on the scale and get frustrated. Come on guys, you aren’t going to lose weight in only a few days. It takes a sustained effort. You have to stay motivated for the long haul if you want to see any progress. Instead of watching your weight just watch your step counts. They will give you a number to look forward to that will constantly be on the rise.

Too many people see exercise as a chore. I see it as a game I play with myself and with others. You can really get motivated to work out if you trick your mind into thinking that it is a really fun and interesting thing to do. Think of your step count as if they were little points you get for scoring a goal. The more points you earn the better the rewards. Keep tracking your step count and you will accumulate points and level up to get some nice stuff. My level 10 reward is a bowl of ice cream.

Games are really fun and they are made even more fun when you put a little friendly competition in the mix. Get a running buddy and have them wear a pedometer watch as well. Every day you guys can compare stats and see who was on top. Studies have shown that it is actually healthier to have a buddy who is just a little bit better than you. That will inspire you to keep up with them and you will push yourself harder.

A pedometer watch allows you to keep track of your progress over time. Record the amount of steps and the distance you travel every day in a log book or in an excel spreadsheet. I like to track my steps every day and then weigh myself on the scale once a month. I track all of that information and keep it in my log book and I get to see how I am progressing towards my goals.

Go out and buy yourself a pedometer watch and stop loafing around the couch. The internet doesn’t have all the answers and it certainly isn’t about to suck the fat out of your body. The only way you can get healthier is by going out and working at it. Pedometer watches can help but it is up to you to really make the difference.
